The Liberated Stock Trader: Your future in your hands. Stock Market Training for the independent investor. (Volume 1) ReviewI have completed the free version of Barry's education on his website and it planted the seeds for wanting to learn more. I jumped at the "Pro" education and I have not been disappointed. Barry has a way of presenting things in a method that is very easy to understand. His website and also this book is easily understood and flows quite well. The flow of his presentation continually builds upon itself. Questions that I had were quickly answered as I progressed through the book. Barry's method is very effective. If you start with the free education and work your way into the Pro (this book and the accompanying videos) you will have the repetition that is necessary to retain the information. The book is very easy to understand and the 16 hours of video footage is a great complement to the text. Barry clearly has the beginner in mind and provides very insightful reviews of various tools in helping you make intelligent decisions about investing.
Barry doesnt make any rediculous promises of grandeur. He lays out methods that are very common sense. You do not feel like his is out to pull the wool over your eyes and rob you blind. He is has good motives as an instructor and isnt taking advantage of people and charging outragous fees that so many others do. He wants you to be successful and he provides the means to help you be completely self sufficient as an investor.
Ive gone to introduction seminars for all kinds of tools out there. Investools comes to mind. they wanted to charge thousands of dollars to get into their system and even then, it didnt cover anywhere near what Barry teaches you to do on your own at a fraction of the cost. Barry teaches effective and efficient means of making informed decisions. This isnt necessarily a get rich quick scheme. It is all about learning to make informed decisions and waiting for the best opportunites.

The Art of Contrarian Trading: How to Profit from Crowd Behavior in the Financial Markets (Wiley Trading) ReviewBack in 1990 I read an article in the July/Aug issue of the Commodity Traders Consumer Report(CTCR)that forever turned my trading mindset around. Carl Futia wrote the article. And no, I don't personally know Mr. Futia, and I have no interests financial or otherwise in his world. But in my 25 years of trading, I can honestly say that this article helped to shape my trading mindset forever. To make a long story short, I'll quote and explain to you the two concepts from that 1990 article that engendered the changes in my trading mind.
Concept #1: Quote: "I had seen clearly that if I relied on oscillators and trend-following techniques, I was always getting into the trend too late. It struck me that I should try to "Anticipate" the beginning of trends rather than waiting to enter in the middle after they had started".
Concept #2: This concept was the idea of "Free Exposure" which Mr. Futia was taught from a seminar by the legendary trader Peter J. Steidlmayer. In essence Free Exposure meant; To enter the market where the risk is the least and the reward is the greatest, one must find, and be able to read where "Value" lies in the market. All entries made at "Value" are essentially tantamount to a "Free" ride in the market, with very little risk "Exposure".
These two concepts started me on my mental journey into what I now call "Anticipating Value" in the market. In any case, back then, after doing months of research and extensive reading on these two concepts my trading was completely turned around for the better. Today, both concepts have melded in one technique, and now form the foundational element of my trading strategy and methodology. Further, since reading this new book, I can see that most of his ideas have since matured into a cohesive philosophy, worthy of anyone's personal library. And by the way, my personal library once numbered over 800 books, so I believe I know a good one when I see it.
Thankfully, I too arrived at some of those same conclusions in his book a long time ago. This is because they were the natural and logical progression from his initial concepts in the 90's. Do yourself a favor and at least read this book, even though you may not agree with it now. Some time in the future, after you have been "sorely tested" in the market for a while, you may be truly thankful that you did. The biggest single danger is that this might be your home computer. Not a computer at your workplace, for which you might be able to ask a sysadmin for help.
So it's you and Tittel against the 3 menaces. Be aware that the terminology in the text and title may vary from what others use. Often, malware is taken to include viruses. I think he chose to break viruses out separately from malware so that the title would outreach to more people. Malware is still somewhat of a techie term, while spyware and viruses have broader recognition.
Naturally, since we're discussing personal computers, the text tends to focus on those running a Microsoft operating system. But in fact, much of his advice applies to Macs and linux/unix machines. Though users of the former 2 types might take heart in knowing that most viruses or worms won't go after their machines.
Tittel explains that increasingly, it's harder to draw clear lines between malware, spyware and adware. But he shows how to use existing anti-malware products that can scan for these and remove them. These products use combinations of signatures of known malware, and also search for "strange" activity that is typical of malware. However, since new variants of malware are continually being developed and found, you should always download the latest sets of signatures from your vendor, before running the tests.
Tittel also gives a succinct description of phishing. A particularly virulent type of malware that has increased enormously in the last 2 years. He suggests that you scrutinise the links and be very wary of any message that asks for personal information; either in a reply, or in a web page pointed to from that message. Unfortunately, the phishers continue to refine their tactics and many users simply aren't savvy enough to follow Tittel's suggestions.
