Pro ADO.NET Data Services: Working with RESTful Data (Expert's Voice in .NET) ReviewThis book is an excellent resource for learning how to build, consume, and integrate REST-Style Data Services into real-world applications that utilize different types of client technologies. Divided into four parts, the book gets things rolling in Part One by introducing in the first three chapters foundational concepts such as: what is REST, how are RESTful Services different from SOAP-based Services, what functionalities are provided and not provided out of the box in ADO.Net Data Services (e.g., no built-in authentication mechanism, etc), what's entailed in building and consuming such services, and what are the best practices for debugging and handling concurrency, security, and service exceptions. The single chapter in Part Two provides commentaries and suggestions on how to add ADO.Net Data Services to legacy applications so that investments in existing code is preserved while creating a new path for evolving new functionalities. The next four chapters in Part Three are, for me, the meatiest part of the book. This is where the authors show you how to integrate ADO.Net Data Services with different types of client technologies such as ASP.Net, Ajax, Silverlight, Popfly Mashups and Biztalk. Each of these chapters include a discussion of the client technology, what issues you may encounter when attempting to consume ADO.Net Data Services and how to resolve or workaround those issues. The book concludes with a single chapter in Part Four discussing currently known future plans for ADO.Net Data Services and related technologies. Overall, I think the authors did a great job providing lots of information, advice, and code exercises (the zip file for which is downloadable from Apress' web site).Pro ADO.NET Data Services: Working with RESTful Data (Expert's Voice in .NET) OverviewADO.NET Data Services (formerly known as ‘Astoria') is a widely anticipated set of components and classes that improve the ability of applications to gain access to data over networks and internet protocols. This book introduces ADO.NET Data Services and explores how to architect and implement solutions that use this technology. As more applications and platforms operate in distributed environments and over the internet, it is essential that developers understand how to work with ADO.NET Data Services. Readers will be exposed to numerous examples of incorporating and using the technology with existing platforms and applications, including web sites, financial systems, integration platforms, document management portals, and custom windows applications.

Beginning Windows Phone 7 Application Development: Building Windows Phone Applications Using Silverlight and XNA (Wrox Programmer to Programmer) ReviewFrom Google Translate--->
Great book to start programming in the new Windows Phone 7.
Clearly explained and very progressive in content and examples that will teach. And not only that they are well explained, they are very complete, and that goes from the basic components of an application to the use of Web services.
On the downside, and it is something you see much in the last books that are coming out, is that just touches XNA, just one chapter focuses on Silverligth. So if you want to make applications, this book is an excellent choice, but if you also want to enter the world of games, we should find something else.
Beginning Windows Phone 7 Application Development: Building Windows Phone Applications Using Silverlight and XNA (Wrox Programmer to Programmer) OverviewDiscover the core concepts essential for developing apps for Windows Phone

Building Websites with DotNetNuke 5 ReviewI wish that this book was available when I started using DNN 1.5 years ago. It takes you though the installation, then introduces you to the basic concepts, and explains some things that you "must get around to figuring out what it does".
There is a middle section that then explains a little about the core and about the web.config, which are extremely useful, and they are the first documentation I have seen on that subject area.
Finally, the third section, is the brilliant examples from Michaels site on how to build modules easily. If you have not built a module, you will love this.
This book will suit a complete beginner but it will also suit a developer that wants to learn DNN and wants to learn how to program modules.
To followed on from the previous reviewer, my father always said about Country music that it is the chords you leave out that are he nicest. Michael Washington has a particular style, he cuts to the chase and tells you what you want to know without the fluff.
I have five DNN books now, but this is the best. I repeat, I wish I could have bought it a year ago.
thanks for all the help.Building Websites with DotNetNuke 5 OverviewThis book has been written both for beginners wanting to set up a website and also for ASP.NET developers with a grasp of VB.NET and C# who want a deeper understanding of how to work with DotNetNuke. To work with the DotNetNuke code, you will need access to Visual Web Developer Express or Visual Studio .NET 2010. No prior knowledge of DotNetNuke is assumed. This book is a practical tutorial with step-by-step instructions and clear, concise explanations. Illustrative screenshots are used for better understanding at every step. You will learn how to set up and administer an example site, stepping through all the tasks to ease your learning. The emphasis is not on becoming a better VB.NET or C# programmer but on taming DotNetNuke.
