ColdFusion 8 Developer Tutorial ReviewI really enjoyed reading most of this book. I say most, because I haven't gotten through it all - there's a lot of content here!
I was surprised by the range of material covered in one book. The CFC's section is excellent, AJAX, and such.
It looks like John Farrar spent quite a bit of time developing his content, and he delivers it in an easy-to-read fashion.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 with ASP, ColdFusion, and PHP: Training from the Source ReviewI have quite a bit of experience building static sites and pages and realized the importance of expanding my understanding of building dynamic sites. I have a pretty good understanding of using Dreamweaver but am just getting started on using Dreamweaver CS3. I was hoping to get a better idea of how to use all of the new features in CS3 while also specifically learning php. I got more than I bargained for. Specifically, I was not aware of the differences between ASP, ColdFusion and PHP. Now, I have a much better feel of which one to use for different situations.
One of the things that struck me right away is that anyone, regardless of your current level of experience, that is interested in using Dreamweaver can start out with this book. For those of you who already have Dreamweaver experience, you can speed through a few of the first parts but it is always great to see how someone else approaches things.
The tutorials and sample files were great and very easy to use - very intuitive and the sequential steps made lots of sense. I am still in the process of implementing all of the things I am learning. As a result of using this book, I am now planning to revise an existing static site and launch a new dynamic site. I love the way the book is written - very practical. I almost feel like the authors are having a dialog with me all along the way.

ColdFusion 9 Developer Tutorial ReviewThere were/are tons of typo's in the code samples and throughout. In addition 0 - ZERO effort was made to update the book from Coldfusion 8. The samples and images still have references made to CF 8. Some of the code simply wouldn't work as it was written even after removing the typos. The last 3 chapters of the book were devoted to packages outside of Coldfusion. This bothered me a little as it wasn't a whose who but more of a use this. A tutorial is suppose to teach you how to get up and running and be successful not pimp other group's projects.
In the end I had to give it a couple stars because I did manage to learn the material; however, in some cases it's because I had to fix so many typos and figure out the right way to do something. I spent a lot of time looking up issues with Google.
And don't even bother looking at the blog they point you to in the beginning of the book. It's simply a shell with no substance. To get the code samples you actually need to go to the Packt publishing website. The samples don't match up very well with the book either. Many times when you look at what he tells you to type and use and then go look at the sample it will have twice as much code in it.
In one particular section he doesn't even tell you about a bunch of components you need that he just glosses over. It would have been better to spend a chapter on these extended components and how to do that instead of those other third party tag packages at the end of the book.ColdFusion 9 Developer Tutorial OverviewThis book is a fast-paced tutorial to developing ColdFusion applications, with an emphasis on real-world skills.
