Page One or Die: The Hidden Truth Behind Getting Your Website on Page One of Any Search Engine ReviewThis book is a complete let down and at best a brochure/advertisement for you to visit their SEO marketing website and employ their services. And the fact there were so many positive reviews makes me cynically think that the authors of this book knew how to game Amazon's website and put up bogus positive reviews. It should be titled "The Hidden Truth: How I Fooled Kindle Users to Pay Double for Info that Could've Gotten Free".
There is not one thing in this book that's a 'Hidden Truth'. Everything in this book I have read for free years ago on 'net. I was really hoping there would be just a few nuggets of advice that would help us improve our rankings. But nada. I could give more meaningful advice on SEO than this author did.
The book is ridiculously short (equivalent of probably 30-40 pages), making you feel even more ripped off that you paid $17 - more than you'd pay for a real and quality book for $9.99 on Amazon.com.
Save your money and do a search on Google for "how to optimize my web page for search engines" or something similar, and get much than what's contained in this book for free and in a few minutes.

I fully expected to use it as a resource for new Ebay/Web commerce users that we help teach but found it excelled not only in the basics but in pretty much the whole plan of where you would want to be online in the long run. I am particulary fond of books that discuss legal and accounting set up and this one covers a lot of good info like type of organization, record keeping, copyrights and trademarks, a tax overview etc. A great foundation for the new online business. There is a lot of information regarding web site design, internet security and boosting your sales. Usually many books would leave off in this area but not this one. It has information on taking your retail business online , selling from a storefront and covers some important ideas like affiliate marketing and finding a niche. Whether deciding to operate on Ebay or with your own website this book is jam packed with information. Even as an experienced online user I found myself making notes from many of the sections in the book including those with suggestions on what to do to expand sales, deal with changes and other customer issues. Just as a note this is one huge book. Over 800 pages including the index and for the price a bargain. For Ebayers I would recommend this book and a general Ebay book as a package to buy. The basic premise was exactly what I have been thinking over the past couple of years and I set out a couple of years ago to teach myself all the skills I needed to make multiple income streams on the internet. Get Niche Quick: The Definitive Guide To Marketing Your Business On The Internet ReviewThis is a great, handy book to guide you through the internet jungle and will save you many hours of research. I really wish I had had this book before I set up my website. I ended up learning bits and pieces here and there through different people, and it was very confusing with many unexpected, frustrating twists along the way. This book could have saved me a lot of money and headaches!
The first chapter clears up what exactly niche marketing is, the importance of using key words and following your passion. Chapter 2 goes into detail on how to use Word Tracker (an important tool for finding out which key words are used most). This chapter has pictures to help those of us who are techno-challenged.
This section is loaded with details and examples.
Chapter 3 teaches how to "target the long tail," using longer chains of key words. It also teaches how to check out the competitor web sites in the same niche. Chapter 4 instructs on how to find affiliate programs so that you can make money by promoting items from other web sites, and teaches "netiquette," or proper e-mail behavior towards those you work with. The 5th chapter teaches how to decide upon info products and affiliate products. You are also given a list of some reputable companies you can make your own affiliate plan with, so others will advertise your products and get a percentage of what they sell to their list members.
Chapter 6 gives an in depth process of how to write your own info-product, such as an e-book. In the next chapter you learn basic web design and the author walks you through basic steps such as registering a domain name. Chapter 8 guides you to writing like a pro for online copy, using catchy headlines and subheadings. This is very detailed and includes 17 must-have items in your sales copy.
Chapter 9 is about your online marketing plan, and includes items such as your mission, promotion techniques, and making your website stand out. Chapter 10 tells you how to get the word out about your site. It tells how to make link exchanges work for you, how to contact owners of other sites, and more. Finally, the last chapter gives us many more tips such as writing articles and where to submit them, how to use blogs and RSS feeds, and more.
This book is a very easy read for a book on technology! It is clear, straightforward, is sprinkled with photos throughout, and makes a handy reference book to keep on hand even after you read it.

There are far too many "failures" in this industry - because of not being able to 'find' the right niche - or because of the lack of (or poor) training -- this book can change all that as I see it.
ERIC VAN DER HOPE - its author, has high credentials behind him. Perhaps more importantly, he gives a list of his mentors at the beginning, including Ted Nichols, Anthony Robbins, Joe Sugarman, Mark Joyner, (the late) Corey Rudi, Shawn Casey, Frank Kern, Mike Litman + many, many other top marketers - a formidable mastermind group.
Some observations...
NICHE MARKET - Eric defines this as "a small but potentially profitable market segment for which it is possible to design and provide a form of custom-made product or specialized service." It involves 'targeting a group' using information about their specific preferences, which might be a group interested in - exotic vacations - real estate - tennis - gardening, etc.
NO BULL - he 'tells it like it is' in terms of becoming successful with running any Online business -- that there IS a huge market out there where good profits CAN be made -- but, that you'll need MONEY to do it -- that you'll need to take ACTION -- that there's intense COMPETITION -- that you'll need to intelligently 'identify' your market, etc. This approach impressed me.
SPECIFICS - he goes into extraordinary detail with - "Finding the Niche" -- Creating the Product" -- "Developing the Offer" -- "9 Effective Business Models" -- "Top 10 Niche Sourcing Methods" -- Case Studies -- Explicit Pictures, Screenshots, Graphs, Diagrams, Charts, etc. Amazing.
VIRTUAL STOREFRONT - you'll learn of the requirements for your Online biz (choosing Domain names, FTP accounts, Autoresponders, Merchant accounts, Hosting, Video, Audio, etc + Upselling [back-end products], Advertising, Keywords, Social Media Marketing, Testing, Traffic generation - on and on. These are only tip of the iceberg. :-)
BLOGGING - this is the 'only' part (Section 2.9) where I have a tiny disagreement with the author :-) Since developing a BLOG (for profit) can be of tremendous value in these times (as a business by itself) - and whereas he suggests using FREE Blogging platforms (like WordPress.com and/or Blogger.com) - I (personally) strongly recommend using a platform where "you" have the full control. The Free versions give you only limited scope, and they can even be "shut down" on you. The ones where 'you' provide the hosting are far superior in my opinion. I'm referring to WordPress.ORG (not the ".com" Free version). WordPress.ORG - although a little more complex - when it's tied to a good hosting service (like Hostgator.com, or those listed on Eric's page 91) - is considered the top Blog platform by most experts I believe.
ACTION STEPS - what I really liked was the way Eric ended each Phase with a set of specific Action Steps - designed to get you "in production" ASAP.
RESOURCES - he provides SO many links to great tools / systems / websites. This only expands an already rich book on the HOW TO of Internet Marketing. It removes the confusion, the overwhelm and the technical obstacles that hinder so many people that are eager to move forward in this challenging but worthwhile and potentially lucrative industry.
All in all, a magnificant contribution to the world of Internet Marketing.
My thanks to the author for this timely masterpiece - it's a classic.

Make Money Online: Roadmap of a Dot Com Mogul ReviewIf it weren't for my familiarity with John Chow, I might have passed on this book based on my skepticism of the "make money online" theme of the title. Although you can download the ebook for free from his site, I was impressed by the comments on his blog and the reviews here that I decided to give the paperback a chance. This has become one of my top books of 2010.
I've been blogging since 2004, with modest success. While I knew quite a bit about blogging and WordPress, I managed to pick up some tips and tricks in the first six chapters. Chapter 7 covered what I felt that I needed help the most - how to write online content that attracts and keeps readers. I also learned a lot from Chapters 8 through 13 and will refer to them once I nail down the principles in the seventh chapter.
This book is such an easy read that I plowed through it this morning, highlighting almost every page. A lot of the tips are already outdated, like emailing Amazon to get instructions on getting your ebook listed. This is really just a list of links with a bit of text in between.
Having said that, if you're not "in the know" then it's always nice to have the links in an organized fashion. While I've had a lot of these in my book marks for while, I know of friends who would find this book a benefit for as long as it takes them to turn the list into a bookmark list.

Website Design and Development: 100 Questions to Ask Before Building a Website ReviewWebsite Design Development is the type of book but I'm glad someone is willing to write. Thankful because it is such a thankless task - every web designer will have some dispute with the questions selected/deselected, or with design principles or the rating of importance. And, yes, I also don't always agree with George Plumley.
However, the structure of the book itself is a testament to Plumley's ability to present information in appropriate sized units, to provide the tools to relate information on this page to other pages, to allow further exploration via sidebars and DVD, to choose appropriate fonts and colors. The book is so well designed for paper format that one immediately trust's the author's ability to produce appropriate web site formats.
The chapters consist of questions built around a particular issue: domain name, hosting, e-mail, design and layout, user experience, construction, content, marketing, search engine optimization, security. These issues represent the full spectrum of elements of a website. This is a real strength as many similar books present only the business view, the techie's view or the user's view.
For each question one finds:
- a very readabile description of the issue and the elements surrounding it
- a visual indicator of the importance of the issue
- very well done examples
- tips, notes, warnings and references to the dvd resource
- rules of thumb
- a list of the related questions
- a list of action items
All the sidebar items are excellent examples of clear, succinct writing. The list give cross-references in a very unobtrusive and manner.
I would prefer that maintenance, blogs and forums receive attention - and a bit less time be spent on marketing and promotion ... but as I said initially, writing a book like this is a thankless task. I thank George Plumley for taking it on.

While that one focuses a lot on marketing and selling (duh, right?), this has more in the way of setting up free websites and blogs with little to no knowledge of HTML.
As I just recently self pubbed my first short novel/novella, I wanted to see what I could do setting up a website for little to no money. (I'm the stereotypical cash-strapped writer, lol.) The website I was contemplating setting up was an all modular, drag and drop-type of set up, but I felt the cost on a monthly basis just doesn't work at this point in time.
So I got this book. And it pointed me in directions I never thought about. It discussed certain things about websites I'd never considered. As I already have a free blog, I didn't pay as much attention to that, but I'll re-read because I figure I can only better my blog with more suggestions. :-)

Starting a Yahoo Business For Dummies ReviewFirst of all, let me start by saying that I have been using Yahoo Store since 1998, and have run an ecommerce business full time since 1999, when I quit my day job.
I picked up a copy of this book to give to a friend who was starting up a Yahoo Merchant Solutions site to sell online. I figured it would be a good way to give them a reference guide so that they wouldn't have to ask me 10 million questions about how to add a new product, or how to upload a photo, etc.
I bought the book without even looking inside. But I started flipping through it the day before I was going to give the book away. Once I realized how great the book was, I ended up keeping it and buying a different copy for my friend!
This book covers all the basics for people who don't know much about getting started.
But more importantly, it has a ton of really great high level strategies and tactics that even someone like me who has been using Yahoo Store for almost 10 years can use.
In fact, one specific part of the book about the cross selling feature made me realize I was approaching cross selling all wrong.
I spent about two hours making some changes to my Yahoo Store, and the store made an additional $10,387.42 in cross sells in the 90 days following those changes. (Yes, that's a real number. Any Yahoo Store will run a simple report to look it up, and that's what I just did.)
That's just ONE thing I learned from the book. I have a list of 16 other changes that I am starting to implement because of what I learned.
Ideas like optimizing my photos better, creating more buyer guides, improving my About Us page, improving the checkout pages, etc. And I haven't even re-read the book yet.
In summary: This book is not just for beginners! You're going to find good stuff in it even if you're a pro.

I purchased it from Amazon because Jim Cockrum endorsed it in his newsletter (which is how I heard of it). The book basically outlines step by step how to set up an information product business online. The first chapter explains why this business model is ideal for most people, due to low overhead and the almost bottomless demand for information products online. Chapter 2 suggests ways to build a profitable infoproduct quickly. I think they should have explained the "profitable" side of things a bit more explicitly. For example, while many people might have collections of recipes at home they think they could sell online, most people searching for recipes online are searching for FREE information, not an ebook they have to pay for. Ideally, you should create an infoproduct for a market where infoproducts are already selling well. Scanning the categories of products on Clickbank.com is a good way to get ideas for products of your own. If you aren't sure what to create, think about the products that people are already selling on Clickbank, and then come up with a complementary or supplemental product that would be a logical "upsell" to the audience for those products. This is the most important decision you will make, and determines if your product will sell, more than any other factor. Beyond that the book outlines the different content formats you can choose to make, how to set up a website, get traffic and turn your "prospects into buyers." I learned the most from chapter 6, and I think that chapter alone is worth the price of this book. While it doesn't explicitly teach you how to write a sales letter it tells you some important things to consider when setting up your sales page. I think a few sales letter examples and a simple template would have enhanced this chapter a lot, especially for beginners who are new to information marketing online. A separate chapter on outsourcing would have been helpful also. My thoughts are you should probably write rough drafts of your ebook and sales page and then outsource the rewrites to someone more experienced to "clean them up" for you. I prefer vWorker for all my outsourcing, since I have the option to pay for deliverables only, rather than for time. It seems to result in faster turnaround, and since the funds are escrowed, I don't have to release them until I am completely happy with the end product. For beginners, I also recommend using e-Junkie rather than Clickbank or 1shoppingcart. With e-junkie you get payment processing, but they also create expiring download links automatically and I believe they also host your actual product files, so you don't have to create any web pages yourself other than just the sales letter page, with the order button connecting to your e-junkie checkout. That saves time, and also eliminates some of the learning curve with having to create web pages and learning to FTP your files to a download page, as well as not having to learn to install a script to create expiring download links yourself. If you're a beginner and you don't know much about web design you should probably try out Blinkweb's hosting - you get a free domain name and a wysiwyg editor that includes simple sales page templates that are super easy to use, and are designed specifically for information marketers. All you have to do at that point is upload an image of an "add to cart" button and link it to your e-junkie account for checkout. e-Junkie does the rest. If you don't like paying $14.99 a month for hosting and you don't mind the learning curve, then google "Chris Farrell" and sign up for his free "Success Grenade" videos that walk you through web page setup step by step. You'll learn how to FTP your web site, create download and squeeze pages, upload files to your site's hosting account and more. I think Blinkweb + e-Junkie would save you more time and let you get your business up and running a lot faster, but if you don't mind a few months extra work and study, you can learn to do it the "hard way" through Chris Farrell's video series. Overall, "The Six-Figure Second Income" has a lot of good ideas and recommendations, even though I disagree with some of the recommendations in chapter 4, since they aren't very beginner-friendly, and can stymie someone for months before they can get an actual product online. Even if you start with only Blinkweb for hosting/web design, e-Junkie for shopping cart/payment processing, and the basic Aweber account for managing your customer list, it will cost under $40 a month to get going, and takes a lot of the technical stuff off your plate.The Six-Figure Second Income: How To Start and Grow A Successful Online Business Without Quitting Your Day Job OverviewProven methods for building an online income stream
